Turtle 4.1 Beta Released. Turtle 4.1 includes a completely new GI user interface, which enables you to select the primary and secondary GI solver of your choice and then tune them individually. Turtle 4.1 also introduces the Radiance Cache to speed up Radiosity Normal Maps calculations, giving both faster and better results. In Turtle 4.1, Path Tracing is included in the global illumination toolbox.Turtle 4.1 also got all “Extreme Makeover” on the Image Based Lighting and HDR user interface and unified the settings for controlling the environment.
What’s new in Turtle 4.1?
- Global Illumination Interface
Thanks to a new unified GI user interface, setting up GI renders is a breeze in Turtle 4.1. This enables you to select the primary and secondary GI solver of your choice, and then tune them individually. You can even use specific GI solvers for different ray types.
Many GI settings have also been changed in order to simplify setup. The settings are now more intuitive and many
have an automatic mode, wherein Turtle calculates suitable values for you. This means less tweaking and headache
when using global illumination.
- Path Tracing
In Turtle 4.1, Path Tracing is included in the global illumination toolbox. This means that it’s now much easier to
setup multi bounce global illumination renders, without tuning complicated photon mapping settings or having to
commit to the long render time needed for multiple depth final gather. And, as icing on the cake, the path tracer
supports lighting from incandescent objects and HDR environments. Oh, and did we mention it’s unbiased?
- Environment Interface
Turtle 4.1 also got all “Extreme Makeover” on the Image Based Lighting and HDR user interface and unified the settings
for controlling the environment. This makes it super-easy to setup environments and backgrounds for both the
final renders and the GI solution.
- Radiance Cache
Turtle 4.1 introduces the Radiance Cache, significantly speeding up Radiosity Normal Map calculations. Even more
importantly, quality is improved dramatically, resulting in much smoother results compared to RNM’s in Turtle 4.0.
- Surface Transfer Presets
Surface Transfer sampling now has three presets (Inwards, Outwards and Closest) with which to speed up the initial
tuning of a transfer.
